The Netflix App on my Xbox does show that its in 5.1 and does play with surround sound. If I play a show or movie its not in surround sound. Sometimes big movie titles are lacking a 5.1 soundtrack on Netflix.
There are many movies/shows in the Netflix catalog however that do not have 5.1 sound. Going to the audio options within the show/movie also doesnt show its available. The movies that have 5.1 surround sound listed sound like they do. Yet when on netlfix still only get crappy 5.1 sound In order to play 5.1 sound or virtual surround sound via Netflix, the Dolby Digital Plus codec (DD+) must be supported. Just recently purchased the newest Ultra and noticed that in Netflix on a show/movie overview screen it doesnt show that its in 5.1. When using Netflix App on the TV, i went into Expert Audio Settings and it lets me select "dolby digital +" for audio ouput I have a standard Chromecast I could try, currently fitted to an older TV, not sure if that does 5.1.
